Asian Games hosts update OCA General Assembly

Bangkok, Thailand, July 8, 2023: The hosts of the next two Asian Games updated the 42nd OCA General Assembly on their plans and preparations for Hangzhou, China and Aichi/Nagoya, Japan on Saturday, July 8.

The 19th Asian Games, postponed from September 2022, will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023, and the opening ceremony is just 77 days away.

Organising committee HAGOC said the 54 competition venues, 31 training venues, main Asian Games Village and five sub-villages were ready to host the Asian Games, and over 10 million people had taken part in sports and recreational activities in the competition venues.

In addition, 71 test events have taken place, and over 21 million netizens have joined the digital torch relay.

OCA Vice President Song Luzeng said: “The preparations are in full swing, with the great support of the OCA, Chinese Olympic Committee and our National Olympic Committees. We have made satisfactory progress and we are ready to welcome Asia to Hangzhou.”

The Hangzhou Asian Games will feature 40 sports, 61 disciplines and 483 events.

AICHI/NAGOYA 2026

The 20th Asian Games will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026.

Organising committee AINAGOC confirmed the 41 sports - 32 sports from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games plus nine other sports, including one from each of the five OCA zones: wushu (East Asia), sepak takraw (South East Asia), kabaddi (South Asia), kurash (Central Asia) and jujitsu (West Asia).

The two sports from AINAGOC are baseball/softball and karate.

The two sports from OCA are squash and esports.

AINAGOC announced it will host the swimming/diving and equestrian events of the 20th Asian Games in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games venues in the Japanese capital – the Tokyo Aquatics Centre and JRA Equestrian Park.

They are also planning to use existing hotels near the competition venues throughout Nagoya city and Aichi prefecture rather than constructing a designated Asian Games Village. AINAGOC is negotiating with 19 hotels, although the OCA is hoping the organisers can arrange an official village albeit on a smaller scale.
