OCA accepts two new sports – Jump Rope and Dodgeball – while withdrawing recognition for Kho Kho

Bangkok, Thailand, July 7, 2023: The Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Asia has granted provisional recognition to the Asian Jump Rope Union and World Dodgeball.

Mr. Song Luzeng, Chair of the OCA Sports Committee, told the Executive Board that an online meeting of the OCA Sports Committee on May 29, 2023 had heard detailed presentations on the sport of Jump Rope and Dodgeball.

Song, who is also OCA Vice President for the Hangzhou Asian Games, said: “We heard presentations from Michael Chan, President of the Asian Jump Rope Union, and Tom Hickson, President of World Dodgeball, for obtaining provisional recognition from the OCA.

“Our Committee agreed to grant this provisional recognition to both sports, and now we present it to the Executive Board,” Song added.

Approval was received from the Executive Board and now this request will be made to the General Assembly on Saturday, July 8.

Meanwhile the provisional recognition of the Asian Kho Kho Federation was withdrawn by the OCA.

Song said this was due to the federation dragging its feet on complying with OCA requirements, despite provisional recognition being granted in 2018 during the Jakarta Asian Games General Assembly.

“Over six years has passed and the Asian Kho Kho Federation has not informed the OCA of any of their achievements. We wrote to them and asked them to submit a report, but they have failed to do so. The OCA provides recognition in order for a sport to grow and develop, but we have not received any feedback from Kho Kho,” Song added.

Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport. It is the second-most popular tag game after kabaddi.
