Schools and sports federations provide 1,000 runners for Asian Games celebration in Dili

Dili, Timor-Leste, July 1, 2023: The 29th leg of the Hangzhou Asian Games Fun Run took place on a sunny morning at the Gedung Matahari Terbit venue in Dili, capital of Timor-Leste, on Saturday, July 1.

The event attracted an impressive turnout of over 1,000 participants, including students from 12 schools and representatives from 11 sports federations.

Among the notable participants in the fun run were Aguida Amaral, one of the first Timor-Leste Olympians and a marathon runner, as well as Victor Ramos, a boxer who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

A total of 200 medals were awarded to the participants and winners across various categories. In addition to the fun run, the Timor-Leste National Olympic Committee organized a quiz competition to engage the attendees and further enhance the event experience.

Timor-Leste NOC was represented by Mateus da Cruz de Carvalho (Vice President), Laurentino Guterres (Secretary General) and Vicente Carvalho da Silva (Vice President).

A three-strong delegation from the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee comprised Mr. Tao Zili, deputy director of anti-doping department; Ms. Chen Qian, deputy chief of anti-doping department; and Mr Lyu Ruibin, staff of finance department.

Ambassadors also attended the fun run: From China, Charge d’affairs of Chinese Embassy, Mr. Xu Danyang; from Korea, Ambassador Shin Mantaek; from New Zealand, Ambassador Philip Hewitt.

The band of Sao Minguel Arcanjo High School provided the musical entertainment.

The 11 sports federations represented were: Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Badminton, Esports, Hockey, Volleyball, Athletics, Swimming, Shooting and Weightlifting.
