Iraq NOC marks Olympic Day 2023 with President Raad Hammoudi calling for peace on earth

Baghdad, Iraq, July 1, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq celebrated Olympic Day 2023 on June 23 with NOC President Raad Hammoudi calling for peace on earth.

The celebrations revolved around demonstrations of several sports by youngsters including one from the NOC’s Gender Equity Committee which put on a show by the girls’ tennis team.

The occasion began with a speech from the President of the Iraq NOC, Raad Hammoudi, which was read out on his behalf by his deputy Samir Al-Mousawi.

In his address, President Hammoudi said: “I congratulate all the athletes and workers in the Olympic Movement in the world, wishing that peace on earth and an atmosphere of love and harmony among the people of the world.”

Hammoudi also wished for competitions and sporting events to take place in a ‘clean’ environment.

At the ceremony which followed, there were demonstrations of cycling, taekwondo, judo, football and tennis from athletes and young children. All participants received certificates signed by IOC President Thomas Bach and Iraq NOC President Hammoudi.

Also attending the event were the Iraq NOC Secretary General Haitham Abdul Hameed, members of the Executive Board and heads of a number of national sports federations.
