OCA reminds athletes across Asia to practice Clean Sport and strictly adhere to the WADA code

Kuwait City, Kuwait, July 1, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia has reminded all athletes in the region to practice Clean Sport and to be aware and adhere to the World Anti-Doping Agency Code.

With the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou China around the corner – September 23 to October 8 – OCA in a timely reminder has requested all athletes in Asia to be conscious of their roles and responsibilities for Clean Sport.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 1, the OCA urged athletes across all 45 National Olympic Committees in Asia to follow a set of guidelines on anti-doping.

The guidelines are:

·        To be knowledgeable of and comply with the anti-doping rules.

·        To be available for sample collection at all times, and to comply with the same collection requirements and procedures.

·        To take responsibility for what you ingest and use.

·        To inform medical personnel of your obligation not to use prohibited substances and prohibited methods, and to take responsibility to make sure any medical treatment you receive does not violate anti-doping rules.

·        To inform your NADO and your International Federation any decision by a non-signatory that you have committed an anti-doping rule violation within the previous 10 days.

·        To cooperate with Anti-Doping organisations investigating anti-doping rule violations.

·        To disclose the identity of your Athlete Support Personnel upon request by NADO or a National Federation, or any other Anti-Doping organisation with authority over you.

“Always remember, respecting and playing by the rules not only protect your rights, but also safeguards your accomplishments and promotes fair and clean sport for all,” the OCA statement noted.

Last month, the OCA called on all NOCs in Asia to nurture and build up their Athlete Support Personnel so as to encourage clean sports across Asia.
