Vientiane, Laos, June 29, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Laos is celebrating the success of a three-nation Olympic Day celebration involving Thailand and Vietnam.
The NOC reported on June 29 that an Olympic Day walk/run across the Second Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge between Savannakhet and Mukdahan provinces was part of the 129th anniversary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee on June 23, 1894.
The event was organised jointly by the NOC of Thailand, NOC of Laos and NOC of Vietnam and held on June 24.
According to Thai Tourism, the Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge is located on Chayangkun Road in Ban Song Pueai, Tambon Bang Sai Yai - 7km to the north of Amphoe Mueang Mukdahan.
It is a part of the East West Economic Corridor route, which starts from Myanmar, passes through Thailand and Lao PDR and ends in Vietnam.
Construction began in January 2003 and the opening ceremony took place on December 20, 2006. The two-lane bridge - with a length of 1,600 metres and width of 12 metres - crosses the Mekong River and leads to Ban Nakae, Muang Kaysone Phomvihane - 5km to the north of Savannakhet Province of Lao PDR.
