Damascus, Syria, June 28, 2023: An impressive turnout of local athletes and hundreds of children participated in a successful Syrian leg of the 19th Asian Games Fun Run Hangzhou 2022 in the capital Damascus on Sunday, June 25.
The Syrian leg of the Asian Games Fun Run was held under the auspices of the Honorary President of the Syrian Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia Executive Board Member, Major General Mouwafak Jamaa, with a number of top officials from national sports federations and NOC officials also in attendance.
The Olympic Council of Asia was also represented by Wissam Trkmani, OCA Projects and Operations Manager.
The Fun Run festivities which were held at the Al-Fayhaa Sports City in Damascus also included a bike race and demonstrations of many other sports like karate, taekwondo, gymnastics, badminton, table tennis and handball.
Addressing Syrian media at a press conference at the NOC Headquarters earlier on Sunday, Mr. Trkmani emphasised the broader significance of the Asian Games saying it was more than just winning medals.
“The Asian Games Fun Run serves as a platform to promote friendship, team spirit and camaraderie throughout the Games,” Mr. Trkmani noted.
