Doha, Qatar, June 27, 2023: The stars came out as the Qatar Olympic Committee celebrated Olympic Day 2023 with a spectacular community engagement at the Mall of Qatar last Friday, June 23.
Three Olympians - weightlifter Fares Ibrahim, swimmer Nada Mohammed Wafa and sprinter Bashair Al-Manwari - were present and captivated young children and older fans at the Mall during a panel discussion.
The three remarkable athletes – Fares Ibrahim is Qatar’s first Olympic champion having won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games in the men’s 96kg event – shared their inspiring stories from their Olympic careers, underlining the importance of the Olympic Movement.
The panel discussion provided a unique opportunity for the audience to gain insights into the dedication, resilience and determination required to excel at the Olympic level.
“Olympic Day to me is a celebration of sport and its power to inspire and bring people together from diverse backgrounds. It is an honour to be part of this event and share the Olympic values with young athletes. I hope our stories and experiences encourage them to pursue their dreams and embrace the positive impact of sport in their lives,” Fares Ibrahim told The Peninsula.
Children of all ages were able to take part in various fun-filled activities, interactive games and exciting competitions as the QOC-organised event aimed at inspiring the younger generation and promoting the importance of physical activity, sportsmanship and Olympic values in line with this year's worldwide theme #LetsMove.
