Colombo, Sri Lanka, June 25, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka celebrated Olympic Day 2023 in mega fashion, holding a 1.5km walk in the capital Colombo and an art competition for children.
The Olympic Day walk around the Viharamahadevi Park in the heart of the city was attended by the Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka, Jean-Francois Pactet, the Colombo Municipal Commissioner, Ms. J.M. Bhadranie Jayawardhana, NOC Secretary General Maxwell de Silva and other dignitaries.
More than 500 schoolchildren, school bands and 200 athletes also participated in the 1.5 kilometre walk which skirted the perimeter of the main park in the city. The celebrations which climaxed with a dance and musical show were partnered by NOC sponsor Crysbro Next Champ and the Colombo Municipal Council.
Also to commemorate Olympic Day, an art competition was held at the NOC headquarters in Colombo on Thursday, June 22.
The competition which was for children from the Colombo District was held in two phases. The first phase was online from which the best 50 entries were selected. The final stage was held on Thursday with the top ten entries being awarded certificates at a ceremony held at Viharamahadevi Park on Sunday.
