Lausanne-based Enkhsaran wins OCA youth reporter project in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, June 23, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia announced the latest winner of the Asian Games Youth Reporter Project in Ulaanbaatar on Friday.

She is Enkhsaran Baasandorj, a 20-year-old student at the Business School Lausanne – the Olympic capital city in Switzerland.

“I am very interested in the Olympic Games and the Olympic movement, and I have visited the International Olympic Committee during my time studying in Lausanne,” said Enkhsaran, who hails from Orkhon Province in the north of Mongolia.

“I train in table tennis, so I hope I get the opportunity to watch the Chinese table tennis players at the Asian Games. I am looking forward to watching the different sports, interviewing the athletes and also seeing Hangzhou and Chinese culture and history.”

The OCA conducted the fifth and final sports reporter workshop of the Asian Games cycle at Mongolia NOC HQ on Thursday, June 22. A total of 24 students aged from 15 to 20 attended the three-hour programme and learned about the history of the IOC, OCA and Mongolian National Olympic Committee.

They were also tested on famous Mongolian Olympians, sports in the Asian Games and flags and landmarks of countries and regions in the OCA’s five zones.

The highlight of the workshop was when Urantsetseg Munkhbat, who won a bronze medal in women’s judo at Tokyo 2020, was the special guest at the press conference exercise. Now retired from judo and practising mixed martial arts, Urantsetseg, 33, answered questions for 30 minutes on her life and sports career.

From the former judoka’s comments, as well as an athlete bio provided by the OCA, the students had to write a news article of 350 words.

Maral Dorjsuren came in third, Enerel Byambasaikhan was runner-up and Enkhsaran’s article was deemed the best for the news value, story construction and flow, accuracy of the comments and for facts and figures.

The OCA conducted the youth reporter project for the Hangzhou Asian Games in Kuwait, Tajikistan, Palestine, Hong Kong-China and Mongolia, and invited the best entry from the five NOCs to join the OCA media team in Hangzhou for the 19th Asian Games from September 23 to October 8.
