Hong Kong and South Korea win Olympic tickets for men’s and women’s table tennis team events

Gondomar, Portugal, January 27, 2020: Hong Kong and South Korea secured the final team places on offer for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by emerging successful in the respective men’s and women’s events at the ITTF World Qualification Tournament in Gondomar, Portugal, on Sunday.

The No.10 seeds Hong Kong recorded a 3-0 victory over Czech Republic, the No. 16 seeds, to clinch their ticket in the men’s team event at the Olympics.

In the women’s competition, Korea, No. 4 seeds, defeated France (18th seeds), 3-1, to book their Olympic berth.

The Tokyo 2020 table tennis team lineups are now complete with 16 countries participating in the men’s and women’s competitions. China are the defending Olympic champions in both events.

Men’s Lineup: China, Germany, Egypt, United States, Brazil, Australia (all qualified by winning continental championship), Croatia, France, Hong Kong, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, South Korea, Sweden, Chinese-Taipei (all qualified from World Qualification Tournament in Gondomar), Japan (host nation).

Women’s Lineup: China, Germany, Egypt, United States, Brazil, Australia (all qualified by winning continental championship), Austria, Hong Kong, Hungary, North Korea, Poland, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Chinese-Taipei (all qualified from World Qualification Tournament in Gondomar), Japan (host nation).
