Mongolia’s Olympic judo bronze medallist Urantsetseg joins OCA youth reporter workshop

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, June 22, 2023: Mongolia’s Olympic judo bronze medallist Munkhbat Urantsetseg was the guest of honour at the Olympic Council of Asia’s Asian Games Youth Reporter Project in Ulaanbaatar on Thursday.

Urantsetseg, who won a bronze medal in women’s -48kg at Tokyo 2020, took her place at the top table of the conference room in Olympic House and answered questions from 24 students on her life and her career in judo and now in mixed martial arts.

The Q and A exercise simulated an official post-match press conference at a major sports event such as the Olympic Games and Asian Games and gave the students, aged from 15 to 20, the opportunity to ask questions to a famous Olympic medallist. Urantsetseg, the 33-year-old former world champion, was only too happy to answer.

Following the press conference, the students were given a maximum of one hour to write an article of around 350 words based on the comments of Urantsetseg, supported by the athlete profile provided by the OCA.

The articles, which were written on laptops and also by hand, will be assessed by the OCA in collaboration with the Mongolian Sports Press Union based on news value, story construction and flow, accuracy of comments and overall writing style.

The top three articles of 24 entries will be announced at the Asian Games Fun Run on Friday morning, and the writer of the best article will be invited to join the OCA young reporter programme at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The OCA has conducted the Asian Games Youth Reporter Project together with five hosting National Olympic Committees in Kuwait, Tajikistan, Palestine, Hong Kong-China and Mongolia.

*Mongolia NOC held a short ceremony to mark the opening of the digital museum and library in Olympic House on Thursday afternoon. NOC President and IOC member Battushig Batbold said that the new service in Olympic House was just one part of further developments of the HQ.
