Amman, Jordan, June 20, 2023: A burning desire for a new beginning and fresh challenges led to Nasser Majali taking on the wider role of Secretary General of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation.
Speaking the day after the Jordan Olympic Committee announced it had appointed Rana Nazmi Al-Saeed as JOC Secretary General, the former incumbent Majali revealed on his Facebook page that in his new position he would continue to serve Jordanian sport.
“The new step in my career will definitely be in sports as Secretary General of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation, through which I will seek to continue serving Jordanian, Arab and Islamic sports to promote and develop sports on a wide scale,” Majali commented.
Majali was appointed as ISSF Secretary General in January 2023. The ISSF comprises 57 countries and was established in 1981.
“I spent six years as secretary general of the Jordan Olympic Committee during which I was allowed the opportunity to get to know Jordanian sport closely and to be close to all the efforts made by the whole system to achieve success and sporting excellence,” noted Majali.
During his six-year tenure as JOC Secretary General, Majali oversaw the country’s first Olympic medals in its history including the maiden gold medal won by taekwondo’s Ahmad Abughaush at Rio 2016.
“I have lived the moments of victory and joy of our heroes and heroines. I have felt great pride when the Jordanian flag was raised at major events,” he revealed.
Majali profusely thanked HRH Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, for the confidence bestowed on him over the past six years.
“It has been a period full of challenges and striving to develop Jordanian sport and follow the directions and vision of Prince Faisal in the implementation of the national strategy and His Highness’s desire to lift Jordanian sports and put it on the world map under the presence of His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince,” noted Majali.
Majali also thanked all the national sports federations for the cooperation given to him and extended his gratitude to the staff of JOC whom he said had given their fullest support to him.
In conclusion, he said: “I sincerely wish good luck to Ms. Rana Al-Saeed in her new job as JOC Secretary General, and I am confident that she will make all efforts to continue the development of Jordanian sport.”
