OCA donates six sports sculptures to Hangzhou Asian Games Museum

Hangzhou, China, June 16, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia donated a six sport arts sculptures to the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum in a ceremony on Friday, June 16.

At the handover ceremony, Ng Ser Miang, First Vice President of the International Olympic Committee and a member of the OCA Executive Board, handed over the "Certificate of Authorisation" license plate to the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum.

This award will greatly enhance the international recognition of the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum and the value of sports culture. The Hangzhou Asian Games Museum is located at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium by the Qiantang River. It has an exhibition area of 5,400 square meters and supporting rooms of 700 square meters, totaling 6,100 square meters.

In the long history of the Asian Games, this is the first Asian Games Museum to be opened to the public before the official opening of the Games, which will take place on September 23.

The museum is divided into three exhibition halls - “Asian Games and Hangzhou", "Asian Games and Asia" and "Asian Games and the Future" - which will vividly present the whole picture of the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Para Games for domestic and foreign visitors.

It will also provide a panoramic view of the history and cultural imprint of the Asian Games going back more than 70 years, and become an important window to tell the history of the Asian Games, inherit sports culture and promote sportsmanship.

Through various exhibits, souvenirs and other exquisite objects, the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum takes the audience through time and space to retell the history and glorious development of the Asian Games. 

"The Hangzhou Asian Games Museum is targeting collecting exhibits that were used in the past or will be used for the official games," HAGOC deputy director Chen Shengjian said.

The six sculptures donated by the OCA depict six sports - archery, running, basketball, fencing, tennis and equestrian - and vividly capture the beauty and athleticism of sport through simple and modern designs.
