Kathmandu, Nepal, June 13, 2023: The President of the Nepal Olympic Committee, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, met the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Director for Chess Development, Nigel Short, and the President of the Nepal Chess Association, Bidur Gautam, on Monday, June 12.
President Shrestha discussed the Olympic Movement and how the Nepal Chess Association has done a remarkable job by organising many national and international programmes which have helped local players.
Also present at the meeting were NOC Secretary General Nilendra Raj Shrestha, Nepal Chess Association Senior Vice President Harikaji Maharjan, NCA Secretary General Dharam Lama and other officials of the NCA.
Mr. Short is an English chess Grandmaster, coach, columnist and commentator. He earned the title of Grandmaster at the age of 19 and was ranked third in the world by FIDE. He was also the first English player to play a World Chess Championship match.
