Malaysia NOC congratulates Moira Tan on Penang state award

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, June 12, 2023: The Olympic Council of Malaysia has congratulated its Assistant Secretary General, Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, for being honoured with the Special Award for Sports Contributions by the Governor of Penang, Tun Dato' Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

The award was presented at the 2019-2022 Penang State Sports Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 10 at Bertam Resort, Kepala Batas, Penang.

The OCM noted that Moira's contribution to sport in Penang began in 1992 when she was posted as a lecturer in Physical Education at the Maktab Perguruan Persekutuan Pulau Pinang (M4P).

Specialising in netball but also working in other sports, Moira trained many teacher-trainees who went on to become PE teachers in schools around the country. Moira later became netball instructor at the University Science Malaysia (USM) and then Vice President/Coaching Chair of the Penang Netball Association from 1999 to 2003.

Moira retired as a senior lecturer in the M4P in 2007 but continued to serve in the sports industry when she was elected as an Assistant Secretary General of the OCM in 2007.

Since 2008 she has specialised in delivering the Advanced Sport Management Course as a qualified Programme Director and has conducted 16 editions of the annual ASMC as well as numerous three-day Sport Administrators Courses for the OCM in Kuala Lumpur and in many other states including Penang.

“We are very proud of Moira for her great contributions towards the Olympic Movement in Malaysia. On behalf of the Executive Board and the Executive Council of OCM, we congratulate her for the Special Award in recognising her contribution by the Penang State Government,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, OCM President.
