Kyrgyzstan to compete in 24 sports at Hangzhou Asian Games

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, May 31, 2023: Kyrgyzstan will compete in 24 sports at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China this year, according to Aibek Abdymomunov, Director of Physical Culture and Sports Department of the Government of Kyrgyz Republic.

Speaking at the Asian Games Fun Run press conference on May 31, the government sports official told local media that the 19th Asian Games from September 23 to October 8 would feature 40 sports, 61 disciplines and 483 events.

The local delegation will number over 200, including 180 athletes, plus 46 coaches, doctors, press services and other personnel.

“At the moment, accreditation is almost complete,” he said.

“Taking into account the fact that the Asian Games is still three months away, the final list of athletes will be announced later. Preparations from our side are in full swing and the athletes will go through all the training camps.”

The team will be sponsored by one of the Asian Games Prestige Partners - 361 sports apparel brand.

Mr. Yu Yongtao, Deputy Director of Human Resources Department of the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee, updated the local media on the preparations including the competition venues, appointment of technical officials, village services, promotional activities and volunteer recruitment.

The OCA’s Manager of Special Projects and Operations, Mr Wissam Trkmani, provided a brief history of the Asian Games and highlighted the growth of the Games in terms of participating National Olympic Committees, athletes and sports from the first edition in New Delhi in 1951. He also pointed out that this would be the third Asian Games to be held in China following Beijing 1990 and Guangzhou 2010.

Ms. Du Dewen, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kyrgyz Republic, spoke of the close ties between the two countries at the highest presidential level.

“The beautiful city of Hangzhou is famous as a historical and cultural city of China and is one of the six ancient capitals of China. Today, this ancient city has a new power, awarded the title of ‘City of the Internet’. Therefore, ‘Heart to Heart, @Future’ became the motto of the Asian Games in Hangzhou,” she said.
