Sri Lanka NOC prepares for Olympic Day 2023

Colombo, Sri Lanka, June 1, 2023: The 2023 Olympic Day Organising Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka held a preliminary discussion with all parties which will be involved in the celebrations on Olympic Day which falls on June 23.

The Sri Lanka NOC Olympic Day Organising Committee, headed by NOC Secretary General Maxwell de Silva, met with the Colombo Municipal Council Commissioner, Ms. J.M. Bhadranie Jayawardhana, and officials from the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka.

The preliminary meeting discussed the Olympic Day celebrations which will take place at the Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo on June 23.

Viharamahadevi Park is a public park located opposite the colonial-era Town Hall, headquarters of the Colombo Municipal Council. It was built by the British colonial administration and is the largest park in the capital city.

Among those representing the Embassy of France were Ms. Olivia Bellemere, Cultural and Cooperation Counsellor, Ms. Marion Brun, Cultural Attache, and Thomas Bellil, Attache for Cooperation and Education.

Olympic Day aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and the participation of people in sports. It also marks the symbolic anniversary on June 23, 1894, commemorating the birth of the modern Olympic Games at the Sorbonne in Paris, France.
