New Sporting Asia celebrates SEA Games success in Cambodia

Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 29, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia’s latest edition of the Sporting Asia newsletter is now ready for download on the OCA website, www.ocasia.org.

This 61st edition of Sporting Asia, for June 2023, celebrates the success of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia from May 5-17.

This was the first time in the 64-year history of the SEA Games that the “Kingdom of Wonder” had hosted the event – and it became known as the “Free Games” due to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s decision to provide free accommodation and food for 11,000 athletes and officials, free entry to all events and ceremonies for the public, and no fees for broadcasting rights.

The front cover features Bou Samnang, the Cambodian runner whose determination to finish the women’s 5,000 metres in torrential rain won the hearts of 60 million Cambodians and made headlines around the sports world for her true Olympic spirit. There are eight pages of reports and photos from Cambodia 2023.

The new Sporting Asia also reports on the OCA/Olympic Solidarity Athletes’ Forum in Bangkok, the Chefs de Mission Seminar for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China and OCA Coordination Committee meetings in Bangkok and Hangzhou for the two big OCA games this year.

There are also 11 pages of NOC News in Pictures from our five zones, four pages of Women in Sport including International Women’s Day messages and activities, and reports and photographs from the Asian Games Fun Run series around the continent.
