Malaysia NOC focuses on PE teachers in sport administrators’ course at UPSI

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, May 28, 2023: The Olympic Council of Malaysia, in collaboration with the Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching of the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), is coordinating the second session of the Sport Administrators Course for the fourth and final-year students who are majoring in PE.

The course is taking place from May 26-28 at the Sultan Azlan Shah Campus of the UPSI and is being conducted by two accredited National Course Directors: Ms. Kalaivalli R. Ratnam and Mr. Fong Wan Hor. There are 35 students - 21 male (60 per cent) and 14 female (40 per cent).

The two directors are being assisted by a team of facilitators, namely Mr. Ahmad Arif Astaman, Mr. Ahmad Badrulhisam Che Kassim, Mr. Chong Choong Seong, Mr. Lim Cheng Kian, Mr. Ronizam Ismail and two invited speakers, Ms. Ang Li Peng and Hajah Wan Norafzan Wan Mahadi.

The course started with a briefing by Ms. Moira Tan Siew See, the Assistant Secretary General of OCM, who is also the Chairperson of the OCM Education and Training Committee. 

“On behalf of our President, Tan Sri Dr. Norza Zakaria, who is an alumni of UPSI, we are glad to conduct the first ever Sport Administrators Course in collaboration with the UPSI,” stated Ms. Moira Tan in her briefing.

The Opening Ceremony was officiated by Dr. Ali Md Nadzalan, the Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation) of the Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching of the UPSI.

“Physical Education teachers should also be equipped with the knowledge of sport management and administration,” Dr. Ali said.

“Therefore, the participation in the Sport Administrators Course by OCM will be an added value to your training as Physical Education teachers.

“On behalf of the Faculty and the UPSI, I would like to thank the President of the OCM, Tan Sri Dr. Norza Zakaria, for initiating this collaboration between the OCM and the UPSI.”
