Phnom Penh, Cambodia, May 16, 2023: Vietnam has topped the medal rankings at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The last medals were presented on Tuesday, May 16 with organisers and the 11 delegations focusing on the closing ceremony set to take place at the Morodok Techo National Stadium on Wednesday.
Vietnam led the way with 136 gold medals, well ahead of Thailand in second place with 108.
Indonesia finished third with 87 and first-time hosts Cambodia came in fourth with 81 gold medals.
Philippines (58), Singapore (51) and Malaysia (34) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, while Myanmar (21), Laos (6), Brunei Darussalam (2) and Timor Leste with eight bronze medals completed the rankings.
The Secretary General of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, Tran Van Manh, said the Vietnam team had performed beyond expectations.
“Vietnam is the best at SEA Games 32 with 136 gold medals, 105 silver medals and 114 bronze medals, 28 gold medals more than Thailand. The Vietnam team has had a successful SEA Games, beyond expectations,” he said.
“On the last official competition day, the athletes brought home 12 more gold medals. Congratulations to the achievements of all athletes and the Vietnamese sports team,” added Tran Van Manh.
