Bahrain NOC President Shaikh Khalid hails state of handball in the country

Manama, Bahrain, May 4, 2023: The President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has expressed his joy at the current state of handball in the country.

Shaikh Khalid, who is also First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Public Authority for Sports, was speaking at the grand final of the inaugural Khalid bin Hamad League Cup for the Golden Generation on Wednesday, May 3.

Shaikh Khalid voiced his happiness at the technical levels and the tremendous strides handball has made in recent times as well as during the current season.

The final was played between Barbar club and Al-Dair club at the Bahrain Table Tennis Federation Hall in Isa Sports City. Barbar defeated its arch-rivals 40-28.

Shaikh Khalid appreciated the efforts made by the Sports Authority, the Bahrain Handball Federation and clubs, and highlighted the fact that the development of age groups would have a positive impact in future years by making strong and competitive teams capable of excelling on the international stage.

Bahrain men’s handball team qualified for the first time for an Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020. The icing on the cake of this historic achievement was in reaching the last eight.

The Bahrain Olympic Committee President was full of praise for the emerging talent and commended the role of the federation and clubs in unearthing this talent and honing their skills, enabling them to reach national level.

Also present at the grand final were HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the Public Authority for Sports, HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, HE Dr. Abdul Rahman Sadiq Askar, CEO of the Public Authority for Sports, HE Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Table Tennis Federation, and HE Ali Issa Ishaqi, President of the Bahrain Handball Federation.
