SEA Games Federation set for full day of meetings on eve of opening ceremony

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, May 3, 2023: Two of Cambodia’s leading government and sports officials will address the South East Asian Games Federation Council in Phnom Penh on Thursday, May 4.

Deputy Prime Minister Tea Banh, who is Chair of the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) and Minister of Defence, and HE Dr Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and Minister of Tourism, will welcome Council members at their meeting at the Garden City Hotel.

The SEAGF Council meeting will wrap up a full day’s business covering a wide range of topics and lay the groundwork for the future on the eve of the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games on Friday evening.

The day will start at 9am with three standing committee meetings: Sports and Rules, Medical and Anti-Doping and Women in Sport. The Sports and Rules Committee is set to streamline the selection of sports on the SEA Games programme and bring more uniformity and consistency for the hosting countries.

The afternoon session will begin with the SEA Games Federation Executive Committee meeting at 1pm and this will lead into the SEAGF Council meeting scheduled for 3pm.

Deputy Prime Minister Tea Banh will provide the welcome speech and HE Dr Thong Khon, as President of the SEA Games Federation, will make the opening address.

The agenda also includes the approval of six arbitrators appointed to the Ad-hoc Arbitration Panel for the 32nd SEA Games and the approval of the SEA Games Federation Council Lifetime Achievement Award, known as the Order of the Golden Rings, to two long-serving officials.

Council members will hear an update on the 32nd SEA Games, which will run from May 5-17, and on the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025.
