Iraq NOC hosts West Asia RADO annual meeting

Baghdad, Iraq, May 2, 2023: The National Olympic Committee of Iraq hosted the 17th Annual General Meeting of the West Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (WARADO) last Friday, April 28, in Baghdad.

The meeting was held under the auspices of the Financial Secretary of Iraq NOC, Ahmed Sabry.

In his opening address, Sabry thanked the President of Iraq NOC, Raad Hammoudi, the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia for their support in the fight against doping in sport.

Sabry said anti-doping awareness programmes had educated Iraqi athletes about the scourge of prohibited substances and the consequences of taking them during their athletic careers.

On his part, WARADO Chair Professor Kamal Al Hadidi thanked President Hammoudi for hosting the meeting in the capital Baghdad and in the continued efforts to fight doping in sports.

Professor Al Hadidi said the purpose of the meeting was to create a group of experienced and qualified officials who would be able to oversee local, regional and international anti-doping programmes.

Six countries come under WARADO – Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen.

In conclusion, Iraqi NOC Financial Secretary Sabry awarded certificates to all participants.
