Doha, Qatar, April 30, 2023: The Qatar Olympic Committee has congratulated the Qatar Basketball Federation after Qatar won the right to host the men’s FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027.

The QOC posted on its website on Friday, April 28: “Officially Qatar wins the right to host FIBA World Cup 2027, congratulations to all Arabs.”

FIBA, the sport’s governing body, announced Qatar had secured another major sporting event after it hosted the FIFA World Cup last year.

All games in the 32-team event will be held in the capital Doha. The 89th-ranked Qatar team will qualify for the tournament as hosts. They last played in the tournament in 2006, losing all five matches.

FIBA in a statement said: “All venues to be used for FIBA’s flagship men’s event are already constructed, while widely used green technologies will help in delivering the FIBA Basketball World Cup as a carbon-neutral event.”

This year’s men’s basketball World Cup will be co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia and will run from August 25-September 10.
