Hangzhou, China, April 26, 2023: The Hangzhou Asian Games Museum was one of the highlights of the venue tour for delegates on the first day of the Chefs de Mission Seminar in Hangzhou on Tuesday, April 25.
The museum, located in the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium by the iconic Qiantang River, offers visitors a colourful, vibrant and interactive experience.
Not only does it set the scene for the 19th Asian Games, set to take place from September 23 to October 8, the museum also looks back on the previous 18 editions of the OCA’s premier event.
The displays are accompanied by creative lighting and soundscapes, highlighting the past with a background of futuristic images and high-tech wizardry.
The Asian Games and Hangzhou exhibition hall is divided into four parts: Pursuing the Dream, Building the Dream, Fulfilling the Dream and Sharing the Dream. This exhibition hall covers Hangzhou’s journey from bidding for the Asian Games through to the planning and detailed preparations – the results of which can be seen around the city.
The Asian Games and Asia exhibition hall is divided into five parts: History of the Asian Games, Asian Games memories, the Asian Games and China, Asia’s Focus on Hangzhou, and the Charm of Asia. The exhibits include the torches used for each Asian Games, gold medals and mascots.
“In the history of the Asian Games, this is the first Asian Games thematic museum ever to be opened to the public before the official opening of the Games. Undoubtedly, this milestone contains extraordinary significance,” a statement reads.
“The Hangzhou Asian Games Museum shows the priceless treasures inherited by us from generations of Asian Games people. The history of the Asian Games is concentrated here, Asian culture is reflected here, and the sports spirit shines here.”
Another exhibition hall is named Asia’s Focus, which contains memorabilia donated by National Olympic Committees. The museum has received 70 exhibits from 30 NOCs and welcomes more exhibits in the build-up to the Asian Games.
