Malaysia NOC thanks retiring diver Chew Yiwei for medal contribution

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 19, 2023: The Olympic Council of Malaysia has thanked retiring diver Chew Yiwei for his medal contribution at various multi-sport games.

Chew won seven medals at the SEA Games, including four gold, as well as two bronze medals at the Asian Games in 2014 and 2018 and one bronze at the Commonwealth Games.

“The OCM records its heartfelt appreciation to Chew Yiwei for an excellent 13-year career as a medal-winning diver of international calibre,” the OCM said in a social media post.

The Klang-born diver announced his retirement on Tuesday, April 18.

“Throughout the decade, Yiwei participated in five consecutive editions of the SEA Games from 2013 to 2021, two Asian Games in 2014 and 2018 as well as three Commonwealth Games in 2014, 2018 and 2022,” the OCM added, describing Chew as a “valued member” of the national team.

OCM President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Mohamad Norza Zakaria said: “Although he may still be able to deliver a credible performance at international level, we respect his decision to retire from diving to focus on his academic pursuits.

“Yiwei has our utmost respect and gratitude for his sacrifices in representing the country for the entire decade. We wish him the best of luck in all his future undertakings.”
