Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, January 22, 2020: Mongolia’s 3x3 men’s basketball team's campaign to win a ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics stepped up a notch when the national team left for a training and competition stint in Europe on Tuesday, January 21.
The Mongolian 3x3 men’s basketball team will take part in joint training with leading basketball countries Serbia and Slovenia before taking part in a six-team tournament in Novi Sad, Serbia on February 1.
Following this tournament, the Mongolian team will take part in an eight-team competition in Slovenia on February 8-9. The teams invited to these tournaments will mainly consist of national teams preparing for the Olympic qualifying tournament which will be held in India in March.
Mongolia has made huge strides in 3x3 basketball. The Mongolian women’s team has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after finishing in the top four in the FIBA 3x3 federation ranking last November.
At last year’s FIBA 3x3 Uner-18 World Cup, Mongolia finished sixth.
