Nepal NOC holds Lumbini Peace Marathon to mark global celebration

Kathmandu, Nepal, April 9, 2023: Nepal Olympic Committee celebrated the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace in Maya Devi Temple, Lumbini on Thursday, April 6.

The event was jointly organised by Nepal Olympic Committee and Province Sports Council, Lumbini and supported by Lumbini Development Trust.

The Lumbini International Peace Marathon was held as part of the festivities, with the top three placings being Khagendra Bahadur Bhat (Nepal Army), Niran Khadka (Nepal Police) and Amila Sanath (Sri Lanka).

The Governor of Lumbini Province, Mr. Amik Sherchan, along with the President of Nepal NOC, Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, distributed the medals and cash prizes to the winners.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is organised in Lumbini every year on April 6, with the aim of increasing international participation and making Buddha's birthplace a tourist destination.
