Phnom Penh, Cambodia, April 5, 2023: The draw for the men’s and women’s football tournaments at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia next month took place on Wednesday, April 5.

In the men’s event, Cambodia have been drawn with Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Timor Leste in Group A.

Vietnam, holders of the men’s title after beating Thailand in a tense final in Hanoi last year, will head Group B where they are joined by Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos.

Brunei have not entered the men’s tournament, which is for players aged under 22 years.

In the women’s event, holders Vietnam lead Group A and will play Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia. Vietnam and Philippines have both qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this summer.

Group B is comprised of Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore and Laos.

Brunei and Timor Leste did not enter the women’s event, leaving only nine teams from the 11 National Olympic Committees competing in the SEA Games. The women’s tournament is the full national teams, with no age restriction.

The top two teams in each group after a round-robin format will qualify for the semi-finals.

The 32nd SEA Games will run from May 5-17 in Phnom Penh and four co-host provinces, but the football competition will begin on April 29.
