Dili, Timor Leste, April 4, 2023: The President of the Republic of East Timor, His Excellency Jose Ramos-Horta, has welcomed the torch for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games to be held in Cambodia in May.
The torch was lit at the famous Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia on March 21 and the relay will cover all other 10 countries in the SEA region before arriving back in Cambodia for the SEA Games opening ceremony on May 5.
The torch arrived in the capital of East Timor, Dili, on Monday, April 3 and was greeted at the presidential palace by President Ramos-Horta.
The relay celebration was held on Tuesday morning and was attended by the President, along with HE Ho Sarun, Special Envoy, Representative of organising committee CAMSOC, HE Eve Heang, Ambassador of Cambodia in East Timor, who resides in Jakarta, marching bands and 200 local people.
*CAMSOC will celebrate another milestone on Wednesday, April 5 with the draw for the men’s and women’s football tournaments at the 32nd SEA Games, which will run from May 5-17 in the capital Phnom Penh and four co-host provinces.
There will be 10 men’s national teams in the draw and nine women’s teams.
The 10 men’s teams are: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Timor Leste.
The nine women’s teams are: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Brunei will not compete in either event, while Timor-Leste will not enter the women’s football tournament. Vietnam won the gold medal in both events at the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi last year.
