Nepal NOC signs MoU with Lumbini province ahead of UN celebration

Kathmandu, Nepal, March 31, 2023: Nepal Olympic Committee will organise the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace at the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, Lumbini, on the occasion of International Sports Day 2023.

The NOC President, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the NOC with the Province Sports Council of Lumbini on March 29 at the NOC HQ Satdobato, Lalitpur. The MoU will cover various programmes, including a Peace Marathon.

“In the contemporary world, sport is not only the subject of victory and defeat but also the most suitable medium to spread peace and brotherhood in the world. The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace programme will help in the expansion and promotion of Lumbini's tourist market globally,” the NOC President said at a press conference following the signing ceremony.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is a United Nations initiative and takes place annually on April 6.
