Hangzhou, China, March 31, 2023: The Fuyang Water Sports Centre is the latest Asian Games venue to participate in the “Exciting Hangzhou” campaign.
A total of 30 gold medals will be on offer at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre during the 19th Asian Games, with 14 in rowing, 12 in canoe sprint and four in canoe slalom.
The “Exciting Hangzhou” event began on Tuesday, March 28 when the leading athletes from all over China gathered at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre for the National Canoe Sprint Spring Championships – the first national championship to be conducted after the venue was completed.
Moreover, the national canoe sprint championships are part of the selection trials for two major events – the International Canoe Federation Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany, from August 23-27 and the Hangzhou Asian Games from September 23-October 8.
Zhejiang province has a rich history in canoe sprint, with Meng Guanling winning gold medals at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games.
Fuyang Water Sports Centre is the competition and training venue for the rowing and canoe (canoe sprint and canoe slalom) events of the Asian Games.
In addition to the national canoe sprint championships, Fuyang will also host the national canoe slalom spring championships and national rowing spring championships in April.
The rowing competition (14 gold medals) at the Asian Games will run from September 20-25, followed by the canoe sprint (12 gold) from September 30-October 3 and finally the canoe slalom (four gold) from October 5-7.
