Manila, Philippines, March 23, 2023: Sports authorities in the Philippines are providing media training for female athletes as part of the International Women’s Month.

The media training course is being hosted by the government’s sports agency, the Philippine Sports Commission, and has input from sports media in the Philippines.

On the first day, Wednesday, March 22, the PSC media training exercise welcomed more than 40 female athletes from various National Sports Associations.

They received training from veteran sportswriter Mr. Lito Cinco and sportscaster Ms. Patricia Hizon on how to gain confidence in dealing with the media and to be ambassadors of their own sports.

PSC Commissioner and Women in Sports in-charge Olivia "Bong" Coo opened the second day of the media training seminar on Thursday for female national athletes from archery, billiards, gymnastics, kickboxing, sepak takraw, triathlon, indoor hockey, soft tennis, arnis, lawn bowls, judo and pencak silat.

“As we celebrate Women’s Month, as sports advocates, we wish to empower our women athletes by coming up with this workshop, not only to help them face the media but also to promote their own sports,” she said.

“We want them to be able to express themselves freely in the best way possible. We hope that they will not only learn the modules given today but apply them as they encounter the media in the future."

The second phase of the media relations training will be offered for aspiring female sportswriters, journalists and public information officers this April.
