Doha, Qatar, March 22, 2023: The Qatar Olympic Committee celebrated its 44th anniversary with QOC President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani presiding at a ceremony to unveil a new Sports Strategy leading up to the Doha Asian Games in 2030.
The launch was held under the theme of “Vision, History and Achievement” and took place on Sunday, March 19 at the Marsa Malaz Kempinski Hotel in Doha.
Also attending the ceremony were the QOC First Vice President, HE Mr. Mohamed bin Yousef Al-Mana, QOC Second Vice President HE Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and presidents of national sport federations and clubs in Qatar.
The vision of the new 2023-2030 Sports Strategy is for Qatar "to become a leading nation in bringing the world together through sustainable sport development," the QOC said in an announcement on its website.
Continuing, the statement said the main mission was:
*To spread sports and physical activities in the country
*To sponsor and improve the Olympic Movement in accordance with the principles of the Olympic Charter
*To support and improve sports performances within the context of the Olympic spirit
The new sports strategy also focuses on four key areas: excellence, legacy, sustainability and culture.
The QOC was founded on March 14, 1979.
