Thimphu, Bhutan, March 15, 2023: The Bhutan Olympic Committee and Royal Thimphu College signed a revised Memorandum of Understanding for the “RTC-BOC Sports Scholarship Programme” on Monday, March 13.
The new MoU includes an increased number of scholarships from six to 10 slots annually in the newly established Sports and Health Science Bachelor Programme.
The RTC and BOC will also ensure that the national athletes are better supported, both academically and in their respective sport disciplines. It is necessary to ensure continuation of their training and to cope better with the academic rigour of college education.
The BOC and RTC will work in partnership with the National Sport Federations.
The initiative was first conceived in 2012 by His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the BOC, to offer a platform for national athletes to pursue their academic aspirations and continue their sport training, so as to better represent the country in international competitions.
