Jeddah hosts ISSF Extraordinary General Assembly

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, March 14, 2023: The President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal, chaired the ISSF Extraordinary General Assembly at the Intercontinental Hotel in Jeddah on Monday, March 13. 

The general assembly was attended by their highnesses and excellencies representatives of the Islamic member state National Olympic Committees of ISSF.

The meeting was held to approve the session of the 11th General Assembly, the report of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games Konya 2021, the financial and administrative report, and the ratification of ISSF statute adjustments, determining the process of choosing the hosting country of the 6th Islamic Games 2025. The meeting also chose the month of August and the city of Riyadh as the time and place of the 12th meeting of the general assembly of ISSF.

HRH Prince Al Faisal expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the Crown Prince HRH Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the significant support they offered to improve the ISSF as they place their faith in the importance of adopting all cases concerning sport and youth of the Islamic nation. 

On behalf of the General Assembly, HRH Prince Al Faisal offered his deepest condolences to the Turkish and Syrian people and all victims of the recent catastrophic earthquakes. HRH acknowledged his total solidarity with the people of the two countries in this crisis and prayed for the human losses to bless their souls and for the injured to recover soon.

HRH Prince Al Faisal conveyed his wishes for this meeting to be a practical step to re-establish and rehabilitate the cities affected by the earthquake in cooperation with the Islamic Solidarity Fund and thanked His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for the great attention paid to the ISSF activities.

The general assembly shared its gratitude to the Organizing Committee of Konya 2021 to organize the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in which 13 sports venues embraced the competitions, attracting more than 4,000 athletes representing 54 countries as participants shared 1,200 medals in 19 sports. 

Additionally, HRH Al Faisal congratulated Qatar for the outstanding organisation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and praised Morocco for the exceptional achievement made in the World Cup by ranking fourth.

The appointment of the General Secretary of Jordan NOC, Nasser Majali, was approved during the meeting as the General Secretary of ISSF for the remaining electoral period.

The general assembly honoured the Vice President Major-General Ahmed Fouly for the valuable services he provided for ISSF over 22 years and Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Qisder, the previous general secretary for the term of 20 years, and finally Mr Mohammed Bin Saleh Alqarnas, the ex-general secretary for six years.
