Bangkok, Thailand, March 12, 2023: It was all systems go at the Centara Grand Hotel in downtown Bangkok on Sunday, March 12 as organisers of the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) prepared to brief the Olympic Council of Asia with the progress report for the November showpiece.
There was an air of anticipation on the eve of the 2nd Coordination Committee meeting for the November 17-26 AIMAG in Bangkok and Chonburi province, with top Thai sports and government officials pulling out all the stops to ensure the latest update is met with acclaim. A 17-strong delegation from the OCA, led by Director General Husain Al Musallam, will for the next two days - March 13-14 - be given a comprehensive appraisal on everything from Games management to security and traffic by the organisers.
Among the Coordination Committee members who have arrived in Bangkok are Tayyab Ikram, President of the International Hockey Federation, Taha Al Kishry, World Aquatics Bureau member from Oman, and Battushig Batbold, IOC Member from Mongolia.
The home team will be led by Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, OCA Vice President for the AIMAG. Also present at the two-day Coordination Committee meeting will be Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand and Secretary General of the AIMAG Organising Committee, and Niti Wiwatwanich, Deputy Governor of Chonburi province. Buntings of “Garland of Hope”, the official slogan of the AIMAG, will decorate the occasion. Bangkok has vast experience in organising OCA events, hosting the Asian Games in 1966, 1970, 1978 and 1998, the first Asian Indoor Games in 2005 and the first Asian Martial Arts Games in 2009 before the two events merged to form the AIMAG in 2013.
