Asian Games Fun Run in Myanmar to mark halfway stage of 30-event series

Yangon, Myanmar, March 9, 2023: The Director General of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Sports and Physical Education Department, Tun Myint Oo, thanked China for their support in developing the sports movement in Myanmar on the eve of the Hangzhou Asian Games Fun Run in Yangon.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Indoor Stadium in Thin Gan Gyun Township of Yangon on Thursday afternoon, Tun Myint Oo said Myanmar was very pleased to be hosting the Fun Run on Friday, March 10 to promote the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China this September.

“I want to say ‘thank you’ because China always stands with us to promote our sports development and collaborates with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and with the Myanmar Olympic Committee,” he said.

“We have enjoyed good relations between China and Myanmar for many decades, and I wish that the Hangzhou Asian Games will be held successfully as one of the biggest in Asian Games history.”

The OCA’s Director of Media and Broadcasting, Jeans Zhou Jian, said Friday’s Fun Run in Myanmar would be the 15th in the series outside China.

“This represents a landmark, as it will be the halfway stage of the 30-fun run project we are organising around the continent,” he said.

“We are happy that the Asian Games Fun Run is coming to Myanmar for the first time to celebrate and promote the Asian Games.”

Ding Jiong, Director of the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee’s Games Services Department, presented the latest progress report of preparations, including the competition venues, the main Asian Games Village and five sub-villages in Zhejiang province.

Khun Jar Aung, Joint Secretary General of Myanmar NOC, provided details of the Myanmar Fun Run, which will be in the Institute of Sports and Physical Education in Tarmwe Township of Yangon on Friday, starting at 8.0 am.
