OCA EB member Khunying Patama named in Thailand’s 12 ‘extraordinary personalities’ on International Women’s Day

Bangkok, Thailand, March 9, 2023: Olympic Council of Asia Executive Board member Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul has been named among the women of the year in Thailand by the Bangkok Post.

To mark International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8, the Bangkok Post listed 12 “extraordinary personalities” who have brought honour and international recognition to the Kingdom.

Khunying Patama, 58, is co-founder of the G Steel Group. She became a member of the International Olympic Committee in 2017 and Chair of the IOC Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission in 2020.

With the OCA, Khunying Patama is Chair of the OCA Culture Committee - a position which puts her on the Executive Board - and a member of the OCA Advisory Committee comprised of Asia’s IOC members.

She is also a member of the Executive Board of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, President of the Badminton Association of Thailand Under Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, and Deputy President of the Badminton World Federation.

Khunying Patama is one of five Asian members - and three women - on the Executive Council of the Association of National Olympic Committees.

The Bangkok Post introduces her as “Thailand’s inspirational heroine” and highlights her interests in, and support of, a wide range of fields, particularly music and sport, and also her philanthropic activities.

Earlier this year, on February 9, Khunying Patama received the “Person of the Decade” award from the Sports Reporters and Photographers Association of Thailand on the occasion of their 30th anniversary.
