Thimphu, Bhutan, March 9, 2023: The Athletes’ Commission and Gender Equity Committee of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, with support from Olympic Solidarity, conducted a seminar on Safe Sport Policy on Wednesday, March 8.
A total of 16 safeguarding officers of various National Sports Federations participated in the training facilitated by Ms. Tshering Wangmo and Mr. Umang Rai.
The Bhutan Olympic Committee safe sport policy was developed based on the directives of HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuk, BOC President and International Olympic Committee Member, in November 2020.
“As we promote sports and build a vibrant, inclusive sports culture in Bhutan, it is imperative that our youth and sports enthusiasts be able to practice and enjoy sports in a safe environment,” the BOC President stated in the safe sport policy guidelines.
The 16 participants in the seminar are undergoing an IOC Safeguarding Certification Course and are set to become the first IOC certified safeguarding officers in Bhutan.
The Gender Equity Committee also launched safe sport advocacy posters, which were distributed to sports federations and associations in attendance.
