Asia’s leading female athletes post motivational messages on International Women’s Day

Kuwait City, Kuwait, March 9, 2023: The Asian sports community joined as one to mark International Women’s Day 2023 on Wednesday, March 8.

Prominent female athletes as well as National Olympic Committees, Asian Federations and other governing bodies celebrated the achievements of female athletes, administrators and sports leaders around the continent.

India’s Olympic fencer, CA Bhavani Devi, commented: “Today, let's celebrate all of the incredible achievements & contributions that women have made to our society. Happy Women's Day to all the strong, resilient & inspiring women out there!”

Malaysian diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri posted: “Happy International Women’s Day. This goes out to all the strong ladies out there. Embrace your womanhood & be grateful to yourself. Remember that you have a voice, be open & speak your mind.”

The Philippines’ first Olympic gold medallist, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, went a step further with a truly inspiring message accompanied by a series of motivational emojis.

The 2018 Asian Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion posted: “Women can dress up. Women can lift weights. Women can glam up. Women can be a winner. Women can lead. Women can be a public servant. Women can be a champion. Women can be a HERO. You can’t spell a HERO without HER!”

Her message continued: “Women can, We can! We can be who we want to be. Let’s continue to make a difference and celebrate the strength, resilience and achievements of women everywhere. Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing and courageous women in the world.”

The Olympic Council of Malaysia’s Women & Sport Committee organised a Webinar on Safeguarding Athletes, Series No. 2, with the theme “Introduction to the Safe Sport Code” in conjunction with International Women's Day 2023.

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, meanwhile, posted a pictorial celebration with the message: “Enhance and ensure women’s rights and aspirations to all Lankan sports women through Olympic values and vision.”

Jordan Olympic Committee Secretary General Nasser Majali sent his own message: “On International Women’s Day, a message of thanks, appreciation and respect to all Jordanian ladies for their efforts and achievements in various fields. A salute of pride.”

The JOC, with a hashtag of Power On, posted: “The ambition of the Jordanian woman has no limits. She shines in all areas and makes her mark with many successes and excellence. In Jordanian sports, the presence of women has made a bright history with a distinctive career and great achievements.”
