Kathmandu, Nepal, March 5, 2023: A two-day Sports Leaders’ Summit in Nepal ended in Dhulikhel on Saturday, March 4, with the release of a nine-point manifesto for the development of sports in the country.
Speaking on the closing occasion, the President of Nepal Olympic Committee, Hon. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, noted that the Summit had been useful in promoting the development of sports in Nepal and stressed the NOC would take the initiative to implement the issues raised during the two-day meeting.
More than 100 people attended the Summit which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Nepal, Rt. Hon. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who was the Chief Guest.
Among the other dignitaries attending were sports ministers of seven states, member secretaries of state sports, presidents of a number of national sports federations and associations, heads of departments of the National Sports Council, and the media.
During the two-day conference, papers were presented on seven different topics and there were in-depth discussions on sports law, priority of sports, sports infrastructure, performance, psychology, safety, Olympic campaign, anti-doping and gender equality.
The nine-point manifesto included taking the initiative for gender equality and adopting a policy to discourage sexual harassment, violence and betting in sports; to free Nepali sports from the scourge of drugs; and requesting government to build sporting infrastructure at federal, state and local levels.
