World Taekwondo president visits Arzaq Syrian refugee camp in Jordan

Amman, Jordan, February 26, 2023: The President of World Taekwondo, Dr. Choue Chung Won, visited the Arzaq Taekwondo Academy in Arzaq camp for Syrian refugees in Jordan on Saturday, February 25.

 

Dr. Choue was visiting the camp on the sidelines of the start of the Hope and Dream Sports Festival launched by World Taekwondo in cooperation with the Taekwondo Humanitarian Organisation on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

 

The World Taekwondo President was accompanied by Francesco Ricci Bitti, President of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations, Riccardo Fraccari, President of the World Baseball Softball Confederation, Nasser Majali, Secretary General of the Jordan Olympic Committee, Hazem Al Nuaimat, Vice President of Jordan Taekwondo Federation, Kim Dong Gi, Korean Ambassador to Jordan, Bernard Lynch, Australian Ambassador to Jordan, and Richard Barnor, 

Board member of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Organisation.

 

Dr. Choue said: “I am happy to return to the Academy. It is wonderful to watch these children play sports without any complications. We are happy with the results that have been made and we are always looking forward to supporting them in getting a place in big competitions.”

 

The Hope and Dream festival aims to empower refugees to practice sports as a tool to bring about changes in communities.

 

Competitions in baseball and taekwondo will begin on Monday, February 27, with teams from Syrian refugees as well as from Jordan participating.
