Singapore, February 24, 2023: Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee HAGOC will introduce a special aspect of their preparations at the Singapore leg of the Asian Games Fun Run on Saturday, February 25.
Two students from HAGOC’s Asian Games Football Dream Schools - in Guangyuan city, Sichuan province - will present the Singapore National Olympic Council with Maliu embroidery as a token of appreciation for hosting the Asian Games Fun Run.
Maliu embroidery is the generic term for folk stitchwork for several townships in Guangyuan. Artists draw on black, white, red and blue cotton floss and self-woven cloth to make their works.
The two students will serve as young ambassadors for the Asian Games and for China’s rich cultural heritage.
“This special gift is a unique way to express welcome to the world,” HAGOC said. “It is hoped that more people will know more about this kind of artistic embroidery through the Hangzhou Asian Games.”
The Asian Games Football Dream Schools are part of the philanthropic/charity side of the Asian Games, and the marketing department of HAGOC will promote this element on the sidelines of the Singapore Fun Run, along with invited sponsors.
Other activities will include a “Drop Your Dream” and “Cheer for the Asian Games” – allowing members of the public to write down their dreams and drop them in a box and to sign a flag of support for the Asian Games.
A video team will be on hand to record messages of support from Singaporeans and from local staff of Asian Games sponsors for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
