Doha, Qatar, February 21, 2023: The organising committee for the Doha 2030 Asian Games will be established following a directive from the Emir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Sunday, February 19.
According to the Amiri Decree, an organising committee for the 21st Asian Games in Doha in 2030 will soon be set up. Sheikh Tamim ordered the directive just months after Qatar wrapped up its successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022, which was run by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
The decision is effective as of its date of issue and is to be published in the official gazette, Qatar News Agency confirmed.
Qatar’s capital will host the flagship OCA event for the second time, 24 years after first staging the Asian Games in 2006. Doha 2030 will be the first of two straight Asian Games to be held in the region, with Riyadh 2034 following.
Most of the infrastructure that was built for the Asian Games in 2006 and the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be used for the upcoming showpiece.
The 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023, will have 40 sports and 61 disciplines.
The 20th Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in 2026.
