Dubai, United Arab Emirates, February 19, 2023: The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee will celebrate the eighth edition of the National Sports Day on March 2, 2023.

In keeping with the national declaration by the President of the United Arab Emirates, HH Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, that 2023 is the Year of Sustainability, the theme of this year’s National Sports Day will be ‘sports sustainability’ and the slogan will be ‘Emirates Brings us Together’.

The executive team responsible for National Sports Day, composed of senior officials from all the Emirates and chaired by Eng. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al-Qasimi, held a meeting last Thursday, February 9, when it was decided that the March 2 event would run for a full 24 hours. The event will focus on sustainable sports activities such as using bicycles and walking, minimising the usage of vehicles, and recycling materials.

Also present at the meeting was HE Eng. Azza bint Suleiman, Assistant General Secretary for Administrative Affairs of the UAE NOC, and Mohamed bin Darwish, UAE NOC Executive Director. Top sports officials from the other Emirates as well as government officials joined in online.

The meeting witnessed an exchange of ideas for the success of the 8th National Sports Day and implementing the vision of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE NOC.

Sheikh Sultan Al-Qasimi also confirmed that a sports event would be held on March 2 supporting the concept of sustainability and in line with national trends.

The key idea is to leave a sustainable health legacy and promote physical activity through major sporting events.
