Hong Kong, China NOC announces public voting for sports stars awards

Hong Kong, China, January 20, 2020: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China held a press conference at D?Park on Sunday, January 19 to announce the start of public voting for the Cathay Pacific 2019 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards.

The officiating VIPs were Dr. Karl C. Kwok, Vice President of the Federation; Mr. Edward Bell, General Manager, Brand, Insights and Marketing Communications of Cathay Pacific; Mr. Henry Wong Yau Kuen, Chief Leisure Manager (Sports Funding) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; and Ms. Vivien Lau, Vice President of the Federation and Chair of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Organising Committee.

Nominated athletes and teams were also present to show their support for the event and to encourage and motivate members of the public to cast their votes. A public voting counter was also arranged for on-site public voting.

Dr. Kwok said: “This year is the Olympic year. There are 187 days before the opening of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Hong Kong athletes have been working hard to secure their places in the Olympic Games. The Federation fully supports their dream of reaching this target.”

The awards comprise six categories, of which four are open for public voting from January 19 until February 14. These are: “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport” and “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event”. 

The athlete who receives the highest number of votes among the eight winners of the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” will be awarded the “Cathay Pacific Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award”. 

The results will be announced at the Awards Presentation Ceremony and Annual Dinner of the Federation on Tuesday, March 24 at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
