Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, February 19, 2023: The Olympic Council of Malaysia has accepted the Malaysian Boules Sports Federation as an Associate Member. The decision was taken at the 204th OCM Executive Council meeting on Friday, February 17.
The OCM President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, said: “Our decision for accepting the Malaysian Boules Sports Federation as an Associate Member of the OCM is guided by the Olympic Charter for a National Olympic Committee to accept the affiliation of a National Federation affiliated to an International Federation which is recognised by the IOC,” he added.
The Malaysian Boules Sports Federation was founded on Saturday, December 1, 2018 and was recognised by the Federation de Petanque et Jue Provencal (FIPJP) - the International Federation - as the governing body for petanque in Malaysia since Friday, May 17, 2019.
The MBSF was also recognised by the Asian Boules Sports Confederation (ABSC) - the Asian Federation - since Wednesday, May 15, 2019.
History was made on Saturday, February 27, 2021 as the MBSF became one of the founding members of the new international governing body, the World Petanque Bowls Federation, which is recognised by the IOC.
