Nepal warms up for next stage of Asian Games Fun Run

Kathmandu, Nepal, February 16, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia’s Asian Games Fun Run has arrived in Nepal for the next leg of the continent-wide series.

As excitement continues to build ahead of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China this September, Asia’s National Olympic Committees are embracing the Fun Run concept and putting on a show for the whole community.

The Nepal leg will take place in Patan Durbar Square on Friday, February 17 and attract 600 participants, including students and members of the Olympic sports movement in the country.

The event is part of the OCA’s Asian Games for All promotional campaign and is being organised by the Nepal Olympic Committee for the second time, after being held previously in Nepal ahead of the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018.

The Fun Run will begin at 7am from Patan Durbar Square and end at the same location, passing through Ga Bahal, Pulchowk, Krishna Galli, Patan Dhoka, Ashok Halla and Bhimsen Temple. In addition to the Fun Run, various cultural shows will also take place during the event.

“We hope that this event will raise awareness of the Asian Games among the sports community and the public,” said the OCA’s Director of Media and Broadcasting, Jeans Zhou Jian.

The Asian Games for All campaign has three elements: the Asian Games Fun Run, Asian Games Young Reporter Project and the Asian Games Children’s Art Competition – initiatives to involve all sectors of the community and engage with the public. Nepal is the latest country to join the Fun Run festivities.

Friday’s event will attract executives from the Nepal Olympic Committee, Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council, as well as athletes, coaches and officials who will represent Nepal in this year’s Asian Games.

“We expect more than 600 individuals, including school students, media and members of the sports community to participate,” added Mr Zhou.

“The event will also be attended by representatives of the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee and China's ambassador to Nepal, His Excellency Mr. Chen Song, among others.”

The head of the OCA delegation provided the local media with an update on the Asian Games, which will run from September 23 to October 8, 2023 after being delayed by one year.
